Blast from the past...

For those of you from St. Louis, check this out. I remember this promo as clear as day... wow. Ozzie... Whitey... good times.

Enforcer Kovy?

Frankly, if Ian White wouldn't've taken a run at Kovy's head (I thought there was a push to stop that?), this wouldn't've happened. I get the charging penalty, but White had it coming for the elbow. I love the way that he was yelling at Kovy and then was shocked when he turned around and laid White out. I have never seen anyone turtle that fast in my life. If you are going to have the words with someone, you need to have the action to back it up. He's STILL talking smack about it in the press. Jeebus.

Oh well - the Thrash did. We won, 6-3.

See you, Stemper.

Per an ESPN text message that just made me fall off of the couch (and possibly killed my first day of Thanksgiving Break), the Leafs have acquired Stempniak for D man Carlo Colaiacovo and F Alex Steen. He's a 40 point a year kid, and he's a former first rounder. Aside from the 2006-2007 year, Stemp is not. It's an upgrade, but I'll miss Stemp - best of luck in Toronto. Tell Mayers we said hi.

I guess this was necessary. For a laugh, check out who is currently out:
D. Hinote RW Nov 14, 2008 Injured Reserve Lower-body Injury
P. Kariya LW Nov 6, 2008 Injured Reserve Lower-body Injury
T. Oshie C Nov 2, 2008 Injured Reserve High Ankle Sprain
D. King LW Oct 18, 2008 Injured Reserve Shoulder Surgery
E. Johnson D Sep 23, 2008 Injured Reserve Torn Right ACL And MCL

Fun on a stick. Toss in Berglund with a groin strain, day to day. At least our call-ups are doing well. And snagging Crombeen, a Blues legacy, off of waivers from Dallas seems to be working out ok for us. Like Manny said, we're blue collar right now. Blue collar with a 2 game win streak going. Here's to keeping that running... we're on Vs. Tuesday night against the Preds. Good timing, since the Thrash at Leafs game isn't ON TV (thanks, SportSouth! You ROCK!).

The Thrash aren't the only ones who get crap calls.

.9 seconds to go last night, and the Ducks score. How? Someone was SITTING ON MANNY'S HEAD.

And I thought that Moose was the only victim of this craptastic lapse in calling things. Something about the little guys... always getting shoved around. And always finding some way to come back and just say NYAH. Blues win, 3-2 in overtime thanks to Stemp's goal (where he was the only offensive player surrounded by Ducks). Go Blues - with Morrow out for the Stars, we now have a chance at not being last despite the fact that half of our team is either on IR or possibly dead.

Thrashers take on CBJ tonight... I have 2 reasons to root for the Thrash. 1) I dig 'em, and 2) the Bluenotes need all the help that we can get.

Hey, we kept up with them.

The Pens are, without a doubt, one of the best teams in the league. I throughly respect them, and heck - I like 'em. Always have. Being a kid and watching Jagr and Lemeuix play on TV was a special thing, even though it was only once in a blue moon. I adore Malkin and while I am a bit tired of seeing Crosby everywhere I go (Ovy? Come on - much more the face of the league if it has to have one), he is an amazing playmaker and a natural talent - perfectly gifted. I mean, check out his goal from last night (that I was literally ON THE GLASS to see). It knocked me out.

Speaking of hits, poor Todd White got LEVELED. He looked like he didn't even know where he was coming off of the ice.

Kovy kinda went after Cooke for a hit on Slava, but there wasn't anything to make up for the hit that Letang placed on The Todd. I hope he's back for Saturday - the Slava-Todd-Little line is amazing. Slava is 8th in the league for goals... and has 5 more than Sid. Heh.

The team impressed me as a whole with killing off that 5-on-3. Pavs earned his #2 star of the night just with that cycle alone. Some of the best goaltending I've seen in quite a while. Keep it up, Pavs - you're stealing the spotlight from someone else.

5 Game Streak Broken...

By Philly. Duh. But we stayed in it this time, Hedberg had a good game, and Slava Kozlov is a beast. A freaking beast. He's leading the team with 10 goals, and he is #2 behind Little with 16 points. Cripes, he's #10 in the league, and only 3 goals behind Semin.

Unreal... looking at how he played last year, and then this - 2 different guys. I'm glad that he's feeling better and is in better shape. It's nice to see. He's not on the ASG ballot since it's based on last year's performance, but he'd be a nice write-in, all things considered.

Changes in St. Louis

Petro has been sent down to Juniors... sad to see him go, but the kid has alot of potential, and I feel really really good knowing he's in the system.

And for the city in general, sad day. The deal's done. In-Bev's taking over AB to the tune of $52 billion.

As someone from St. Louis who knows all the good that AB has done over the years for that city, words really can't describe how I feel about this. It's not just a brewery, it's an icon. "Here Comes the King" is our 7th Inning Stretch Song (and if they could stop playing it at Thrashers games except for the Blues game on the 30th, I'd dig it - Clydesdales don't do well on ice) Like the beer or not, you can't deny the traditions surrounding it, and you can't deny how much a part of the city it is. It kills me to see this great American business disappear like so many others... but probably more so because it's always been a part of my past and a constant presence - gotta dig the Busch Stadium street sign in my classroom.

I really REALLY hope that they don't close Grant's Farm.

ASG Voting Begins Next Week

Kari and Kovy are on the ballot. The Blues have three: Walt, Boyes, and Kariya. Get out there and stuff the ballot box! Your vote matters - there's no electoral college in hockey.

X shall be summarizing our 6-1 loss today.

“What has to happen at this point is everybody has to go home and dust off their shiny little mirror and take a look at themselves, because I don’t think everyone in this [locker] room is toeing the line,” Exelby said. “It’s up to the rest of us to hold everybody on this team accountable, because when you have a guy like Johan Hedberg in net, who arguably is the best man that I’ve ever met in professional sports, and you come out and play like that in front of him, when he only gets to play one game every 10 games, I think it’s embarrassing. It makes me sick to my stomach to think our team came out that way for this guy.

“Everybody has to start battling, and it has to start [Sunday].”

Thanks, X.
