Just like Robin Spitz (maiden name Swallows), the trade rumors about Kovy just can't seem to go away. ESPN's Scott Burnside (who apparently hates us for some reason deeper than the fact that the Thrash are a southern hockey club) keeps throwing out the Kovy trade rumors. This time we have him going to Pitts to play with Crosby. DW does this again? No. And, well, about Crosby...
Remember this?
Atlanta fans remember that as The Point. After Crosby went to the ref to complain (AKA - "voice his opinion... again) about a penalty called against him, Kovy decides to score a goal, skate by the Pens' bench and point at the Kid. Like a "Yeah, try it again" move. Totally Dirty Harry. Methinks they don't get along well.
Also, Kovy was just named as our captain and had this to say during the red carpet walk Saturday night. They asked him how it made him feel to be named our captain... he pretty much said that it's his team and he has always considered it since we drafted him, and that he was very proud and that he hopes that we do better. He also called Atlanta his 2nd home. He's not going anywhere. People really need to deal with it.
Go hyperventilate over Vinnie.
BTW, MS and Havelid are part of that list too, which makes sense since they're UFAs. Kovy is not. Walt is on that list too despite his NTC, which I doubt he waives. We're close enough to really make a push to squeak in (even though the Blues are in last place), and we need Tkachuk to do that. He's not sure if he's coming back next year, so why not retire a Blue? Come on... you know you want to.

No way we'd trade Kovy to the Penguins -- they already gave us all their prospects, lol.
What's funny to me is the fact that Burnside is a Toronto-ite/Torontonian/Canuckistani (to borrow a term) that lives here in Atlanta. I mean, I don't wanna go over-the-top (or, all Burnside) on anybody by saying he just might have Jim Balsillie on speed-dail, but....
Seriously, this guy rivals EJ Hradek for most hated hockey "journalist."
Hey, lookit that.... they both work for ESPN... huh...
What a ginormous surprise... ESPN has the worst hockey coverage on TV. At least Vs. tries a little. I'd rather have it leave NBC and go to Fox over any other place... at least Fox's broadcasts are fun and professional, all at once.
@Thrashers Recaps - we could always end up with Staal. Weeee.
ESPN burned their bridges with the NHL after the lockout; but I don't blame them...it was a sound business decision. (Besides, Michael Eisner sold the Ducks and was forced out at Disney, so the NHL didn't have a friend at The Worldwide Leader.)
Problem is Versus (Latin for "giant ball of suck") is doing hockey on the cheap, and refuses to have an interesting studio show or hosts with anything intelligent to say...Point: have ANY of their hosts broken any news or strayed from the NHL party line over the past 4 seasons?
Good points... and no, I've never heard Vs. break with anything. As much as I hate NBC's coverage, the McGuire/Millbury fight was at least entertaining - and the guys over at On The Fly on the NHL Network can at least sometimes use a voice of their own.
I wish I could watch NBC's NHL coverage where I live; the Montgomery NBC affiliate shows college basketball instead (they're owned by the syndicator of the SEC sports package)...
Could be worse: back when NBC first had the NHL ('73-'75), the station aired Tarzan movies in the NHL slot.
How... AWFUL. In Alabama and a hockey fan... I can empathize. I lived down here for about 7 years before the Thrashers finally came into being, and I thought I was going to pull my hair out - NO hockey coverage anywhere. Now we just have minimal. Eh. But praise jeebus for on-line sites that stream games... I've been keeping up with the Blues pretty well thanks to some of them.
