All I want for Christmas is a normal goalie situation.

Vivlamore mentions in his blog today that the Thrashers, upon the return of Kari, will be carrying three goalies, which is one too many (unless you're the Oilers from last season). Waddell hints that one of the three might be on the block.

Honestly, and I'm not just saying this because I'm a pretty big Hedberg fan, but he's having a career year and has been playing absolutely out of his mind the past several games. If you read Bill Tiller's blog today, he outlines Moose's stats going back to that Washington game.

Going back over his previous five starts, he has four games in which he’s only allowed one goal per as on January 7 he turned aside 29 of 30 New York Rangers shots on the way to a 2-1 shootout victory. As you’ll recall, that win snapped the nine-game holiday losing skid the Thrasher were on. Even counting the debacle against the Caps on the 9th, he has a .935 SV% and 1.76 GAA in his last five outings. Overall for the season, he is now 11-8-4 with a 2.46 GAA and .917 SV%.
Yeah, you don't trade that. That, and the fact is Moose is almost 37. What kind of decent, solid return do we get for him despite his banner year? Late round picks? Compare that to a return that we could get for Lehts or Pavs - one has ability, and with his back "fixed" could be very attractive. The other has potential that could be very alluring for other GMs. Waddell, if he's going to cut Kovy free, might want to try to get some solid pieces together.

The issue here is really which do you take a chance on, Lehts or Pavs, and who gets a better return? If Hedberg is moved instead, I will be extraordinarily unhappy.

I think it all hangs in how the Hamburgler comes back - will he come out swinging or will he be just another rusty blade on the ice? I mean, I dig Kari - even in his pudgier state, lol. But, if he isn't dependable and agile enough - why should we axe a seasoned veteran or a good upstart?

The main problem is that if he comes back on the 1st like he's supposed to, he only has 2 weeks to play before the Olympic Break to really show us that he's ok, and then right after the break is the trade bonanza. He better be Jesus on Skates.

After tonight, if we trade Hedberg, we're nuts.
