If last night wasn't bad enough...

... and trust me - it was bad (I pointed out what evils come of a special teams failure/AM meltdown over on my series preview on Cycle Like the Sedins), this pops up on the Post-Dispatch.

Walt might retire. At least, he talks like it.

"The best thing in the world is to try to compete in the playoffs and just go out and give yourself a chance," Tkachuk said. "Who knows? This may be the only team I have left, if I have any left. So I'm just going out to make the best of it and have fun with it."

He's a leader in the locker room, he's a mentor to the kids, and he's a huge part of why we are where we are right now. Everyone gives the youth movement their credit (and it's deserved), but without Walt they wouldn't have the focus and drive to do what they've done.

He's a future Hall of Famer (hopefully wearing the Note - I mean, Jets? Coyotes? Thrashers? No) and a candidate for a number retirement later on down the line. If he does feel that it's time to hang up his skates, hopefully he will be offered an office job a la Al MacInnis. Do I want a creepy bronze statue of him outside of Scottrade? No, because they frighten me. But he's made it clear how much he appreciates the team and loves the city of St. Louis, much like many people who have worn the Note before him. He deserves a thank you.

Uh oh. Sounds like the Bret Favre shuffle. "If" and "only team" Yeah... he's probably going to jerk the team around before finally retiring. And then un-retiring. And then re-retiring. And then un-un-retiring, at which point they'll pass on his contract and he'll go to another team with vague hopes of winning a title. And then he'll re-re-retire when they of course don't win.

And then you'll see him in really bad commercials trying to make a buck.

Naaaaah - I don't see Big Wallet taking that track. He's been playing for a looooooong time, and he's tired - I think he's been talking about this for a few years. Either he signs for one more year and then goes, or he's out this year and takes an office job. He's good peeps, as opposed to that asshat Favre.

Did Favre re-re-re-re-retire?

LOL now I'm hearing rumors that he might consider going to the Cleveland Browns as a mentor. I say sure, Brett. Just be sure to shave your face instead of your hair (he's gotten it reversed) - maybe a little Just for Men Touch of Gray wouldn't hurt either. The point is to stop looking like a old ranch hand.

I'm sure his wife would appreciate the effort.

A mentor? For what - jerking your team around when you feel like it? I'd keep his butt far away from my squad if I were a coach.
