A few Olympic thoughts...

Odd. That's how most of us hockey fans felt too when we saw WOMEN'S CURLING ON TV.

Ok, mainly just the one - please save this sport from NBC. This marks the second day in a row that the prime time matchup (tonight, Sweden and Germany) had a good bit of the 1st period and even into the 2nd cut into by curling, which had gone into overtime (yeah, I know). Luckily, you could turn to the on-line feed, which, unlike last night, did not pick up the CTV feed. Instead, it ran the NBC feed sans play by play - which could be considered a good thing. The on-line ads were poorly timed, starting at face-offs and cutting into gameplay at random.

Also, the refs and linesmen are questionable (see: Enstrom's holding call, or Oduya's misconduct for a blow to the head when he very clearly checked Strum in the numbers), but Toby's the PP quarterback for the team and as of this typing, has one assist already. This should continue to be a good, evenly matched game... if we're allowed to watch it.

Finally, folks, calm down about David Backes. There's a 99.9% chance that he didn't say that he was going to re-break the neck of Sprunger. If you're hell-bound and determined to get pissed off about something during these games, focus your hatred on NBC. It's better deserved.

I was so bored waiting for the men's hockey on CNBC and the men's halfpipe on NBC - I actually attempted to watch curling to see what all the fuss is about. It's about as exciting as watching chess and, while they seem to finally have some people in their 20's playing it - it's still nothing that would be worth televising over hockey.

But kudos to Sweden for the win and bigger kudos to Shawn White for totally owning the halfpipe. That snowboarding Carrot Top blows my mind with the stuff he keeps inventing.

I caught the Canada/Germany women's curling match after the game last night - it was oddly mesmerizing, at least when the Canadians were up. I was too distracted by the scary manliness of the German "ladies" to watch for too long. It hurt my mind.
